Tottenham manager Enzi Postecoglou explained why he called captain Son Heung-min to the bench in 56 minutes in his return match.

"After Aston Villa's 10th round of the English Premier League (EPL) in 2024-2025 held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on the 3rd (Korea time), Son Heung-min could not play more than 55 minutes," Postecoglou said on the British public broadcaster 「BBC」. Last time I came back from injury, I went over 60 minutes, and the injury recurred. He held out (today)."

Coach Postecoglou made a bold decision to replace Son with Hishalisson in the 11th minute of the second half when Brennan Johnson connected Son's assist to an equalizer in the fourth minute of the second half. After Son Heung-min stepped down to the bench, Dominic Solanke's consecutive goals in the 30th and 34th minutes of the second half and James Madison's net goal in the 6th minute of extra time in the second half showed that it was a strategic change to turn the game around, but Postecoglou explained that it was part of protective measures to prevent the risk of injury recurrence.

Son Heung-min missed six of Tottenham's seven games before the match after suffering a hamstring injury against Karabakh in September. He returned from West Ham last month and scored his third goal of the season, but has missed the past three games due to problems with his condition again. There is a calculation that 'Jupo' should be saved as many games are scheduled until the end of the season in the future.

Tottenham saved Son Heung-min and enjoyed the effect of killing two birds with one stone, winning a big victory by three goals. Frank Lampard said in his book Sky Sports"Tottenham is good at vertical and fast passes across the center of the pitch. Villa failed to respond with a quick turnaround like they did in the first half in Solanke's first goal"The performance in the second half is bound to be good for the coach. The big-money goalscorer in the summer scored two goals, and Madison, except for the starter, came in hungry and showed good performance"It was well received.

Glenn Murray told BBC Radio"Postecoglou does not hesitate to make big decisions. We've seen that all along."

Coach Postecoglou gave the players credit for the victory, saying that the efforts of the players in the second half were outstanding in the midweek game.

Immediately after the replacement, there was tension between Son Heung-min and Postecoglou, but after the game, he was happy to win by sharing a hot hug as if he had done so.
