It's a shock. Suwon Samsung is competing in the K League 2 (division 2) for the second consecutive year.

Suwon Samsung, led by head coach Byun Sung-hwan, played its last game of 'Hana Bank K League 2 2024' against the Ansan Greeners on the 3rd. Suwon recorded the final 15 wins, 11 draws and 10 losses (56 points). I finished in fourth place.

It wasn't over until it was over. The fifth place in this season's playoff qualification will be given. Suwon was in fierce competition with the Jeonnam Dragons and Busan I'Park. We had to watch the results of the final regular league match between Jeonnam-Seoul E-Land and Busan-Bucheon FC on the 9th. The best-case scenario was the defeat of Jeollanam-do and Busan, and the worst-case scenario was the victory of Jeollanam-do and Busan.

The lid has been opened. South Jeolla Province defeated E-Land 4-0. Busan defeated Bucheon by a score of three to one. With this, Jeonnam, which was ranked 5th, finished the regular league by moving up to 4th place (57 points). Busan, which was in sixth place, took the last train to PO in fifth place (56 points). Busan (55 points) is the same as Suwon (46 points), but is ahead in multiple points.

A ray of hope in Suwon has been shattered. He finished the season in sixth place in the final. I didn't even get a ticket to PO. The club deeply appreciates the fans for their continued great support this season through SNS (social network service). I feel so sorry for the result of not meeting expectations. I will thoroughly analyze and supplement the shortcomings of this season and do my best to be promoted in 2025.

Suwon is the most popular K-League club that does not need an explanation. This season, which was relegated to the K League 2, also boasted an average crowd of 9,217 spectators. Suwon also holds the record for the largest number of spectators in the K League 2 this season. In his last game against Ansan, he called in 15,308 players. Suwon's popular club was able to grow into a popular club thanks to the era of glory.

Suwon has been reigning as a 'K-League powerhouse' since its foundation in 1995. It is a prestigious team that won the K League 1 four times (1998, 1999, 2004 and 2008). The Korea Football Association Cup (currently the Korea Cup) also lifted the trophy five times (2002, 2009, 2010, 2016, 2019). Compared to Spain's prestigious Real Madrid, it has also been described as 'Real Suwon'. There were also many players representing Korea.

The crash was an instant. The operating entity of the Samsung Sports Team lost its power when it moved to Cheil Worldwide in 2014. In the end, he experienced humiliation by finishing at the bottom of the K League 1 last year. I dreamed of promotion this season, but the situation was not easy. Suwon even changed its head coach in May with a 'complete defeat'. Suwon worked hard to get promoted immediately, including recruiting about 10 players in the summer transfer market alone. However, the result will be in the K League 2 next year as well.

Then, will Suwon be able to be promoted to the next season as promised. Suwon did not make a significant change in the composition and operation of the team, shouting 'Direct Promotion' this season. However, it is evaluated that it will be difficult to expect the same level of support and composition as before in the situation where it remains in the K League 2 stage for the second consecutive time.

Earlier, Coach Byun became accustomed to the evaluation of Suwon as a 'master' even without the players' knowledge. I think this is enough. The moment I thought this would be okay, the rough taste disappeared in the stadium. The hungry taste is gone. There are two types of points in K League 2. To defend to the extreme and leave it to foreign players, the other is how desperate they are to fight as one team with hunger. Basically, if the desperation and the fierceness in the playground are lower than the opponent, you can't show any good skills,' he said.
