Spanish media Sport reported on the 23rd (Korea time) 'Nkunku's agent contacted FC Barcelona and expressed his intention to transfer'
Nkunku, a Frenchman of the Democratic Republic of Congo, wore a Chelsea uniform for a transfer fee of 66 million euros (about 99.7 billion won) last year. However, shortly after the transfer, he took a long break due to a knee injury, and even after his return, he played mostly as a substitute. In the 2023-2024 season, the first season of the transfer, he started only two of the 11 Premier League games.
The situation is no different this season. He has played in 16 league games, but has only made two starts. In the Champions League, although he has shown good form in all seven games and scored seven goals, he is rarely given a chance to start in the league.
It is pointed out that Chelsea is not suitable for Nkunku. Nkunku is not in line with the tactical style that Encho Maresca aims for.
Nkunku shook his head over the transfer rumors surrounding him and stressed that he would compete for the starting position at Chelsea. He reportedly asked Maresca to expand his chances to play. In the midst of this, rumors of contact with Barcelona emerged.
Given that it is an issue that began with the agent's proposal, it is unclear whether it will actually proceed. It's hard to say that Nkunku's recent form is perfect, but Chelsea, who has invested a considerable amount of money, is at least likely not to do a losing business. If the cost burden is high, Barcelona will also have to be cautious in recruiting.
Nkunku's talent deserves to be attractive to Barcelona. In addition to the second striker, he is classified as having the ability to make chances in the second line and observing his decision-making power. However, the variable is that the participation in defense is lower than that of offense and that the durability is questionable due to frequent injuries.
