At a regular board meeting held at the conference room on the 7th floor of Cheonan City Hall on the 19th, Cheonan expressed concern that some of the pledges discussed during the KFA presidential election were in violation of the agreement between Cheonan City and the Korea Football Association to build the Korea Football Center, causing confusion among local residents.
Regarding the two-track operation with Paju NFC and the review of the relocation of KFA Cheonan among the pledges of some presidential candidates, the board of directors agreed that Cheonan City and the club's desire for soccer was overlooked six months before the completion of the soccer center. It also strongly demanded that the agreement between Cheonan City and the KFA based on trust be implemented no matter which candidate is elected.
Cheonan, which finished its second season after entering the K League, began preparing for the 2025 season in earnest by voting on some revisions to the foundation's operating regulations, business plans for 2025 and general account revenue and expenditure budgets for 2025.
◇Expert on the position of KFA presidential candidate
Recently, the local community has been greatly shaken by some candidates' pledges related to the operation of the Korea Football Association's general soccer center in connection with the election of the president of the Korea Football Association.
The related pledge is to operate the "Korea Football Center" in Paju NFC and Cheonan on a two-track basis, and to relocate part of the Korea Football Association's office in Cheonan. This is a clear violation of the agreement between Cheonan City and the Korea Football Association five years ago.
When Cheonan City was selected as the final candidate site selection contest for the 『Korea Football Center" involving 24 local governments nationwide in 2019, the Korean soccer team also discussed the establishment of a professional soccer team as part of its infrastructure construction to raise its status as a central soccer city.
Six months before the completion of the Korea Football Center, the candidates' pledges seem to ignore the desire for soccer, not only Cheonan City and our soccer team, but also local governments across the country who participated in the bid. Considering that the city and residents, including soccer players across the country, were very supportive in the constructive future when the NFC was attracted, this is not a very regrettable appearance.
In any case, we pray for the hard work of those who run for the presidential nomination for the development of Korean soccer, and we urge the candidates who violate the agreement between the Korea Football Association and Cheonan City to withdraw their pledges.
