The 55th Korea Football Association (KFA) presidential election has come to an end.

KFA Chairman Chung Mong-kyu, who declared his bid for the fourth term on the 25th, the first day of candidate registration, was the first to complete candidate registration. Heo Jung-moo, former chairman of Hana Citizen in Daejeon, who is setting the stage for Chairman Chung, and Shin Moon-sun, a visiting professor of sports record analysis at Myongji University's Graduate School of Records and Information Science, also completed registration on the same day.

With the Election Commission formed earlier this month, the registration period for candidates is 25-27. The election will take place on January 8 next year, and the new chairman's term will begin on the 22nd. As Chairman Chung, Chairman Huh, and Professor Shin finished registering as candidates on the first day, the head of Korean soccer will be elected through elections for the first time in 12 years since 2013. There are 194 electors in total.

Chairman Chung decided to seek a fourth term on the 28th of last month. He rose to the top of the KFA in 2013. In 2016, he won re-election with a unanimous vote, and in 2021, he ran alone and reached a third term without a vote.

The Sports Fair Committee of the Korea Sports Council held a closed-door general meeting at the Olympic Hall in Seoul on the 11th and deliberated on and approved Chairman Chung's fourth term approval agenda. Chairman Chung held a press conference to run for president of KFA at the Ponyjeong Foundation Building in Seoul on the 19th.

He proposed four things: restoring trust in the Korea Football Association through drastic reforms, enhancing international competitiveness in Korean soccer, completing the Korea Football Center (Cheonan Center), and expanding the base of soccer through the completion of the divisional promotion system.

Chairman Chung said "I thought more than ever and listened to various people. Because he was deeply aware of the criticism, he also had a long time to gain insight into himself. I wanted to put it down, but I thought it was not about fulfilling my responsibilities as a person who has worked for the development of soccer in the past 12 years"I will accept the criticism of the wrong thing without adding or subtracting it and use it as nourishment for the association and development. With greater responsibility than anyone else, I will do my best for the future of Korean soccer with a firm determination to solve the problem."

Chairman Chung plans to announce his pledge at the Korea Football Center in Shinmun-ro, Seoul, on the 26th, under the banner of `Again, Happy Korea with Soccer.' Chairman Chung added, `We intend to proceed with the proposal of a three-way debate requested by other candidates after the presentation of specific pledges by other candidates regarding the schedule and method.'

Chairman Huh was the first to officially announce his candidacy for the election on the 25th of last month. He suggested five keywords: companion, fairness, balance, transparency, and fostering.

Chairman Huh boasts abundant field and administrative experience. A two-time head coach of the national team, he is a mastermind who led the team to the round of 16 away from the World Cup for the first time in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. During his active career, he played for PSV Eindhoven (the Netherlands) and experienced the European stage, leading Jeonnam Dragons and Incheon United in the K-League. As an administrator, he served as vice president of the Korea Football Association and vice president of the Korea Professional Football Federation. Until last year, he led Daejeon Hana Citizen as chairman of the board.

Chairman Huh said, `Now, South Korean soccer is faltering. It is not clean, transparent, or just. The Korea Football Association's dogmatic and self-righteous operating system eventually led to the disastrous collapse of the system"Everyone wants the Korea Football Association to be reformed, but no one has been able to come forward in the face of a huge barrier. So I decided not to remain a bystander anymore. Someone, out of a sense of duty to stop this fall, decided to be a small grain of wheat to bring our football back to life" he said.

Professor Shin gained popularity by working as a broadcasting commentator. A former director of the Korea Football Association and a senior researcher at the Korea Football Research Institute, he served as the CEO of Seongnam FC and built his career as a soccer administrator. Professor Shin expressed his ambition to become the CEO of the Korea Football Association leading the transformation of the Korea Football Association.

He said "Now, the CEO of the Korea Football Association should be able to maximize the sales of the Korea Football Association by taking over the administration by experts who understand soccer and have business ability. The newspaper's executive branch will be a fair association that gives opportunities to talented and hard-working athletes." Professor Shin will hold a press conference at the Korea Football Center on the 27th.

The three candidates will start full-fledged campaigning on the 28th, the day after their registration ends.
