Jared Young, who showed off his formidable long-range power at the KBO Doosan Bears this season, succeeded in re-entering the Major League.

MLB.com signed infielder Jarrod Young to the Major League on the 17th (Korea Standard Time) as a measure to strengthen the roster depth. He said he would compete on the roster at spring training camp.

Signing a major league contract means that it will be included in the 40-man roster, but it can be seen that they are in a position to compete for the opening roster spot in the exhibition game from February to March next year.

Young (KBO registered name is Jarrod), who joined Doosan as a substitute for Henry Lemos at the end of July, played in 38 games as an outfielder and designated hitter and marked a batting average of 0.326 (47 hits in 144 times at bat), 10 homers, 39 RBIs, 29 points, an on-base percentage of 0.420, a slugging percentage of 0.660 and an OPS of 1.080.

Doosan originally intended to renew its contract with Young, but after failing to narrow the gap, it recruited Jake Cave on the 26th of last month. It is not known whether Young has been in contact with the Mets since then, but it is somewhat unusual for him to enter the Major League after previously receiving little attention from the Chicago Cubs between 2022-2023. In the end, it should be said that Doosan's hitting ability became the driving force behind the re-entry of the big league.

Young, who is from Canada, was born in July 1995. Young, who joined after being drafted by the Cubs in the 15th round of the 2017 draft, made his big league debut in 2022 after more than five years of minor league life, but he only posted a batting average of 0.210 (13 hits in 62 at-bats), two homers, eight RBIs and an OPS of 0.725 in 22 games in two seasons until 2023.

To name a minor league career high, he was in the days of Triple-A Iowa Cubs under the Cubs in 2023. He played in 90 games and recorded a batting average of 0.310 (96 hits in 310 at-bats), 21 homers, 72 RBIs, 71 runs scored, and an OPS of 0.995. Before coming to Doosan this year, he played in 74 games for Triple-A Memphis under the St. Louis Cardinals and posted a batting average of 0.285 (67 hits in 235 at-bats), 11 homers, 35 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.917 .

Right-lefty Young appears to be a backup first baseman candidate for the Mets. He was a first baseman in all 12 games he started in the major leagues. In the minor league, he played all positions except catcher and center fielder. In other words, if you show some batting skills in next year's spring training, you can get an opportunity to form a major league roster regardless of your position.

Mets' flagship first baseman Pete Alonso is on the FA market. Whether to renew his contract with Alonso will also affect Young's future.

MLB.com added 'Young is a potential bench member for the Mets in their career. The Mets have recruited Juan Soto and have abundant outfield depth, so there is little room for Young to enter. The Mets signed a major league contract with Young, but they can send him to the minors, saying, `Young's situation depends on who the Mets bring in more this winter, and how much prospects such as Ronnie Morissio and Luis Angl Acuña will grow in spring training is also important.'
