KBO will make a bid to select an operating agency for the 2025 Futures League Automatic Pitch Judgment System (ABS). KBO said "This project will be promoted with the aim of operating ABS system to target Futures League stadiums. Through this, we intend to apply the same standards as ABS introduced in the KBO League to future league games to provide an environment for more low-age players to adapt to ABS, and to study the development of ABS operation through securing and analyzing various data results.
ABS was introduced in the KBO League in the 2024 season, but unlike the first team applied to all stadiums, only a few stadiums were equipped in the second-tier Futures League. In particular, some stadiums were said to be difficult to install the system due to structural reasons, and during the season, there was a time when the ABS system was not in operation due to practical problems such as manpower shortages.
On the spot, they have continued to express their regrets about this. The first team is adapting to the ABS system because it is difficult for the second team players to even have time to adapt. Opinions were gathered that there would inevitably be a deviation from the first and second forces. If ABS is operated normally at all Futures League stadiums next season, this inconvenience can be significantly improved.
Meanwhile, the company selected through this bidding will be in charge of all related equipment, system installation, program development, data analysis, and manpower management for ABS operation at Futures League Stadium.
In addition, it is intended to increase the understanding of the field by collecting ABS-related opinions from athletes and field officials at all times and guiding the overall operation of the ABS more efficiently. In addition, some stadium games will conduct data comparison analysis, accuracy verification tests, and various operation method tests with the tracking system designated by KBO, and establish overall improvement/development plans for the application and operation of the ABS system in the future.
