The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) has decided to provide an average of 270 million won for a total of 22 international competitions to be held in 11 cities and provinces next year.
The 'Project to Support International Games Hosted by Local Governments' is a project to select competitive and excellent competitions among international competitions held by local governments nationwide and support the operating expenses of the competition. Through this, local governments hold excellent competitions to revitalize the local economy and local sports, and domestic athletes gain experience in international competitions based on 'Home Advantage' and increase their performance in preparation for the Olympics and Asian Games.
A total of 34 competitions in 13 cities and provinces applied for the contest, which was held from November 25 to December 6, and 22 competitions in 11 cities and provinces were selected after the first document review on the 11th and the second presentation review on the 17th. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism strictly reviewed the competition by applying screening criteria such as 'the purpose and status of the competition'the effect of activating participation in sports'regional revitalization'Financial Management Appropriateness'Comprehensive Safety Measures' to ensure that the competition could be held faithfully. The average amount of support is 270 million won.
As a result of the contest, Seoul Metropolitan Government, the capital city, will receive support for four 'most 'most' competitions, including the Seoul Marathon, the Korea Open tennis, the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championship, and the ICU World Cup cheerleading. With the workplace sports department at the center, Gyeongbuk will be supported by three competitions: the Gumi Asian Athletics Championships, the Mungyeong Asian Soft Tennis Championships, and the Gyeongju International Marathon.
The World Sabre Junior World Cup, which was ambitiously hosted by Busan Metropolitan City to raise the pride of 「Fencing Korea" at the Paris Olympics, descendants of Yoon Ji-soo, and"Sabre Dream Tree" was also selected as a tournament to support the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In addition, competitions with regional representation such as the '2025 Daegu Marathon' and the '2025 Tongyeong World Triathlon Cup' were selected for support following 2024. Chungcheongbuk-do, which is serious about sponsoring mechanical gymnastics centered on Jecheon, will also receive government budget support for next year's 「Asian Championships for Mechanical Gymnastics」. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism expects that if local governments continue to attract and hold outstanding international competitions, local governments and sports will be linked to each other, making them the representative city of the event for people around the world, and creating a foundation for continuous attraction of tourists, which will serve as momentum to develop sports as well as open a way for sports tourism.
In addition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold the 'Observer Program' next year to provide a place for local government officials and sports organizations to observe excellent international competitions held in Korea and share secrets to attract and host the competition. This year, more than 200 local government officials and sports organizations visited three international competitions hosted by local governments, including the '2024 Seoul Sports Climbing World Cup', and shared secrets to attract, host and operate the competition.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also evaluate the performance of the selected international competition next year and reflect it in future competition selection. By evaluating the results after the competition as well as on-site inspections during the competition, the excellent competitions will be given additional points for screening the next year, and competitions that need to be improved in the operation of the competition will be systematically managed to raise the level of the competition through consulting.
