"An agreement close to unification was reached. We will resolve the narrow gap as soon as possible. I will make a final decision before December 23rd and tell you."

Athletes who declared their challenge to the president of the Korea Sports Council put their heads together for the first time for the unification of candidates 'anti-Lee Ki-heung'.

Eight people have expressed their intention to run for the 42nd presidential election on January 14 next year, including Lee Ki-heung (69), a former IOC member (42, president of the Korea Table Tennis Association), Kang Shin-wook (69), an honorary professor at Dankook University, Kang Tae-sun (75), a former secretary-general of the Gangwon Provincial Sports Association, Park Chang-beom (55), former Incheon Mayor Ahn Sang-soo (78), and Oh Joo-young (39), a former president of the Korea Sepak Takraw Association.

Shortly after former Incheon Mayor Ahn Sang-soo officially announced his candidacy, Dankook University Honorary Professor Kang Shin-wook, former IOC member Yoo Seung Min, former Mayor Ahn, and former president of the Korea Wushu Association Park Chang-beom held their first meeting on the unification of candidates at 2 p.m. at the Naru Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Solidarity between candidates Ban Ki-heung began earlier than in the past. The atmosphere was created when candidates except for Lee Ki-heung visited the tent of former chairman Park Chang-beom, who fought a hunger strike at the Seoul Olympic Center against Lee Ki-heung's third consecutive term.

In the case of Chairman Lee, it is analyzed that the 'current' premium and the 'concrete support base' are solid in 17 provincial sports associations and sports organizations. He is the most likely candidate in the event of a major candidate crisis. In fact, 32.9% of the votes were against in 2016 and 46.4% in 2024 re-election, but they were elected.

Professor Kang Shin-wook, who served as the president of Dankook University's presidential camp Jang Ho-sung during the first election as the chairman of the integrated sports committee in 2016, and who ran in person in 2021 and won the second most votes with 25.7%, is determined to unify. At that time, Lee Jong-geol, the standing chairman of the National Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation, won 21.4% of the votes, outpacing Chairman Lee with 47.1%, but failed to achieve his goal due to the failure of unification.

Former IOC member Yoo Seung Min, who is supported by athletes and leaders for his 40s sports standard theory, and Kang Tae-sun (Chairman Black Yak), the only candidate for CEO of a company, also agree on the need for unification. The first gathering for solidarity, 'Ban Ki-heung', sympathized with the cause of unification, but failed to find a way again this time. As has been the case with the past two elections, it is still a difficult conundrum without a 'unification' way for all candidates to accept it. In the current situation, Chairman Lee, Professor Kang Shin-wook, Yoo Seung Min committee member, and Chairman Kang Tae-sun, who have a strong bone marrow supporters, are likely to form a semifinal structure. The meeting, which began at 2 p.m., continued well past 4 p.m. Two candidates, Yoo Seung Min and Kang Shin-wook, were also seen meeting separately. After nearly two-and-a-half-hour meeting, the candidates agreed on the big framework of unification, and will draw conclusions before the 23rd"I promised. However, they also failed to narrow their differences on the method of unification. Professor Kang expressed disapproval by pointing out that objective data and multiple polls that everyone can understand are also needed for unification, saying, `It is not easy to conduct public opinion polls.' "It is never easy for a population to create and do a survey questionnaire in a broad and fast time. Sampling a wide population is not easy because athletes, leaders, referees, and school sports clubs are electors. There was a difference of opinion in the discussion of what to do as an alternative", he explained. `From a broad perspective, all the candidates have decided to lay down and talk to each other while narrowing the gap,' he said.

"It is true that we all aspire and sympathize with unification or changes that athletes want, but there is a difference in opinion on the methodology of unification," Yoo Seung Min said. "It was difficult to narrow the gap today and I agreed that there should be another meeting as soon as possible."," he added. "Unification agreed that there should be a fair process that people and athletes can understand," he added. Professor Kang said "Please wait a little longer. I'll show you a great performance. I'm really trying not to let you down.'

The largest number of eight athletes in history have expressed their intention to run, but it is also questionable how many will actually register during the registration period for the president of the Korea Sports Council from the 24th to the 25th. If he is not a strong candidate who can influence the votes of sportsmen, he/she may withdraw his/her intention to run after declaring his/her support for a single candidate or a specific candidate in the middle. Candidates must pay 70 million won in donations to the NEC and receive more than 20 percent of the votes.
