Coote received a notice of dismissal from the PGMOL (Professional Match Appeals Organization) earlier this month. A video containing past remarks became a problem. In the video, Coote said of Liverpool "I'm not comfortable" followed by abusive language to Jurgen Klopp, who was leading the team at the time "Germany like X". Another video of Coote smelling white powder suspected of being a drug on the bill was also released, sparking a stir. British daily Daily Mail reported that the videos appeared to have been taken during last summer's European Championships.
After completing the investigation, PGMOL said in a statement that `Coot's actions are deemed to be in serious violation of the terms of the employment contract and are therefore no longer considered difficult to maintain their duties.' The Daily Mail said that although Coote had the right to appeal, he chose to accept his fate rather than exercise his rights.
The Nottingham native started his refereeing career at the age of 16. After a regional league, he was hired as a Football League referee in charge of the 2010 Championship (second division) and was promoted to a Premier League referee in 2018. Last year, he was the referee for the final of the Football League Cup (Carabao Cup) between Manchester United and Newcastle. Analysts say that he mainly made easy decisions when he was a referee. However, with the disclosure of crooked thoughts and actions, the 20-year-old referee's career has also come to an end.
