Manchester City is expected to seek to recruit Bayer Leverkusen next summer.

The British Daily Mail reported on the 25th (Korea time) "The best clubs in Europe showed interest in Birtz's impressive performance, and Pep Guardiola is known to like him enthusiastically."

Birtz (21) is a top prospect and played a key role in leading Leverkusen to its first German Bundesliga championship last season.

Birtz played in every game during the 2023-2024 season while Leverkusen won the DFB Pokal, setting a new European record of 49 games unbeaten.

Media reports "Birtz also contributed to advancing to the quarterfinals last summer, scoring two goals for Germany's national team at Euro 2024," he reported.

Leverkusen has expressed its willingness to keep Birz, which is worth 124 million pounds (about 230 billion won), on the team, but the situation could be different.

The Daily Mail said "Birtz said he had agreed to extend his contract, but Fernando Caro, the club's CEO, said he had not yet agreed to extend his contract."

Leverkusen believes that it is ideal to extend the contract because Birz wants to stay at Leverkusen until the 2026 World Cup.

When asked if he would sell Birz if the deal did not go through, Caro reportedly replied "It would be difficult to be honest" and "It's not impossible, but it's not what we want it to be"

Leverkusen remains in second place in the German Bundesliga, four points behind Bayern Munich. Birtz has 12 goals and eight assists in 25 official games this season.

Besides Manchester City, there are many big clubs that are aiming for Birz.

Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich want to recruit Birz as a playmaker.

Manchester City are reportedly looking at Birtz as a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. The 33-year-old is currently out of contract at the end of this season.
