Chungcheongbuk-do Province announced on the 11th that it has appointed head coach Kwon Oh-kyu as its new head coach. After the 'Hana Bank K League 2 2024' season, Kwon became the third leader to take the helm of the K League 2 after Gyeongnam coach Lee Eul-yong and Jeonnam coach Kim Hyun-seok.

Born in Cheongju, Kwon played as a soccer player in Cheongju, then went to Soongsil University and played in Seongnam Ilhwa, the National Police Agency soccer team, and Yongin City Hall. After retirement, he became a coach at Andong University of Science. In 2018, he gained experience by serving as the head coach of Cheongju FC, which is the predecessor of Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, and coached at Bucheon FC for four years. Upon the foundation of Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do in 2023, he returned to his hometown and played an important role in laying the foundation for the team with head coach Choi Yoon-kyum's 'right arm'. After former coach Choi resigned in October during the season, he took over as acting coach and led the team. He ranked 10th out of 13 teams.

"Coach Kwon Oh-kyu knows better than anyone else the process of establishing a professional soccer team in our region," said Kim Hyun-joo, CEO of Chungcheongbuk-do Chungcheong Province. As a native of the region, I believe that I will do my best without sacrificing. "Through transparent player selection and fair competition, we will be able to strengthen the team's competitiveness and give pride to the local community and fans," he said.



The club is expected to accelerate the composition of the players with the official appointment of new coach Kwon. In particular, we are committed to recruiting mercenaries and aim to establish ourselves as a strong team that defenders fear in the 2025 season,' it said.

Kwon feels a great sense of responsibility to take his first managerial position in Cheongju, his hometown. Chungcheongbuk-do Cheongju will become a coach who proves with results that it can grow and develop quickly with the goal of entering the top ranks in its third year. We will do our best to make Chungcheongbuk-do Cheongju fans come to the stadium with pride," he said of his inauguration.



The new coach Kwon had two foreign strikers with a 'appointment gift'. On the same day, Chungcheongbuk-do announced that it had recruited Pedro and Mateujingyo from Brazil.
