Oscar (33), a former Brazilian national midfielder who has been on the Chinese stage for seven years, has officially returned to his former team.
Brazil's prestigious Sao Paulo officially announced on the 25th (Korea time) that it has signed a three-year contract with Oscar, who played in China's Shanghai River, until 2027.
As a result, Oscar, who played for the Sao Paulo youth team from 2008 to 2010, returned to his home after 14 years after playing for Inter (2010-2012), Chelsea (2012-2017), and Sangha Yi Gang (2017-2024). It is the first time in 12 years that he has returned to the Brazilian stage.
Oscar, who won the 2011 South American Youth Championship and FIFA U-20 World Cup, built a 'World Class Career' at Chelsea. He won the English Premier League (EPL) in the 2014-2015 and 2016-2017 seasons. In the 2012-2013 season, he won the title of the European Europa League. In total, he scored 38 goals in 203 matches while playing for Chelsea.
Oscar, who was building the second strongest line with Willian and Eden Hazard at Chelsea, suddenly declared his trip to China in December 2016. At that time, it was a time when Chinese soccer randomly recruited the best stars with 'football rolling'. The transfer fee offered by Shanghai to Chelsea is a whopping 60 million pounds (current exchange rate of about 109 billion won).

When stars who entered the Chinese stage left one by one without enduring the aftermath of the decline in investment by Super League clubs and the COVID-19 pandemic, Oscar remained until the end. He contributed to winning the league in 2018 and 2023, especially in the 2024 season, which was the last season, he led the team to a double win. He played in a total of 40 games and scored 16 goals. Some media estimated that Oscar earned more than 300 billion won in China alone.
Oscar's national college career, which was also selected for the All-Star team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, naturally stopped with his advance to China. Oscar played 48 A matches in just four years from 2011 to 2015, scoring 12 goals.
Sao Paulo, which has been at the helm of coach Luis Suveldia since this year, ranked sixth out of 20 teams in Brazil's Seria in 2024. Former Tottenham striker Lucas Moura, who was Son Heung-min's teammate, and former Bayern Munich midfielder Luis Gustavo are currently in Sao Paulo.
Prior to the Oscars, Thiago Silva (Fluminense), David Luiz (former Flamengo), and Philippe Coutinho (Vascodagama) returned to the Brazilian league and are active.
