KBL held the 30th 7th Finance Committee at the KBL Center in Gangnam, Seoul on the morning of the 20th. As a result, it was revealed that the mediation was not established after deliberating on the contract dispute between Sono and Kim Min-wook.
A KBL official said "We tried to reach an agreement between the two sides, but no agreement was reached. Now, it is the domain of the judiciary that disputes the validity of termination of the contract.
Kim Min-wook was embroiled in allegations of `school violence' during his college years. The club notified Kim Min-wook of the termination of the contract on the 10th. Sono and Kim Min-wook's contract is due in May 2026. There is about a year and a half left. The annual salary is known to be around 200 million won. While notifying the termination of the contract, Sono paid his December salary calculated to work until the 10th. However, Kim Min-wook did not agree to terminate the contract, so the finance committee was held. Kim Min-wook is in the position that school violence in the past cannot be the reason for the termination of the contract.
According to the participants of the Finance Committee, Kim Min-wook demanded that Sono pay all the remaining salaries this year. However, Sono did not accept it.
Hwang Myung-ho, director-general of Sono, who attended the finance committee, said, `If Kim Min-wook takes the case, we will respond legally.' Kim Min-wook also attended with his lawyer and explained his position at the Finance Committee.
The incident erupted when a revelatory post was posted on the Internet community that Kim Min-wook had committed harsh acts in the sports department during his college years. The Sports Ethics Center is investigating the matter, and KBL concluded that it had no authority to investigate the incident before entering the professional league.
Sono notified Kim Min-wook of the termination of the contract in accordance with the clause that the club can terminate the contract if it causes social controversy or undermines the team's image. When Kim Min-wook did not agree, the club asked the KBL to hold a financial committee. KBL regulations require the club to obtain the player's consent when it terminates the contract.
