It has been confirmed that Son Heung-min's Tottenham has started to strengthen its defense in the winter transfer market in January.
British soccer media 'Football Insider' reported on the 24th (Korea time) that Tottenham launched a deal to recruit Atalanta (Italian) defender Ben Godfrey in the upcoming winter transfer market.
Poor defense is emerging as a chronic problem for Tottenham this season. Christian Romero and Mickey van der Ben were the main centre-backs under Tottenham manager Enze Postecoglou, but Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray have filled the void while the two are out.
However, Dragusin has not been at his best since moving from Genoa in January. Gray wasn't a professional defender, he was more familiar with the defensive midfielder role. As a result, Tottenham suffered a disgrace of allowing nine goals in their last two games, including a 3-6 defeat against Liverpool last weekend.

The Tottenham club have already made contact to sign Godfrey and are looking to Godfrey as a short-term option to add depth to their defence in the second half of this season.
Godfrey, 26, who moved to Atalanta from Everton last summer, has struggled in the starting race, not making the best 11 this season. Atalanta made only five appearances in all of its matches.
The prospect of Godfrey, who is struggling in Serie A, is increasingly likely to return to England, according to 'Football Insider'.
According to media specializing in the transfer market, Godfrey, who is worth £7 million in transfer fees, is a versatile player who plays as a center back, but he is also evaluated to be able to play a full-back position.
'Football Insider' said it is somewhat surprising that Tottenham showed interest in recruiting Godfrey, but predicted that `If Tottenham succeeds in recruiting, it will be able to solidify its weak defense line.'
